Learn From Home, Learn Through Play
The pivot to online classes and virtual learning has subsequently pushed unique subscription kits from mere concepts into viable businesses.
From our Packola community, here are 3 amazing small businesses whose imaginative ideas, in beautifully-designed custom boxes, deliver a perfect mix of education and recreation.
I'm The Chef Too!
I'm The Chef Too! blends food, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), and the arts into educational fun.
“We offer edible adventure kits that infuse educational concepts into our recipes making learning fun, engaging, and tasty,” shares owner Lisa Wallace.
Blast off into outer space and journey through a cosmic adventure of galaxies galore. The team is composed of educators, mothers, and designers whose goal is to create meaningful learning experiences through cooking. Each box or adventure kit is infused with STEM concepts that enable children to invent, engineer, and create through inquiry-based techniques and open-ended problem-solving. One of which is the exciting Galaxy Donuts Adventure Kit.
According to Lisa, their inspiration for the Galaxy Donuts box design is to create a feeling of being blasted off into the galaxy. They chose eye-catching art and bright, bold colors that will excite kids to open the box right away and start their edible adventure.
The Galaxy Donuts Adventure Kit includes the adventure recipe, pre-measured dry ingredients, specialty supplies, themed STEM-related activities, an apron patch, and an activity guide.

Places, Please! is a bi-monthly subscription box that provides a step-by-step acting curriculum for children ages 9-14.Each box is a gateway to hours of imaginative play while stimulating STEAM (that’s STEM plus the arts – dance, drama, music, and more) learning.
The boxes contain scripts and ideas for producing the show, essential costumes and props, and a curriculum notebook with tabs to hold lessons on acting skills, warm-up games, improv, vocabulary, and the history of theatre.
Founder Lisa Closner recalls how they wanted a fun and playful design for their custom boxes. One that would catch the attention of the kids and their parents immediately. With the help of designer Karli Ingersoll, their custom boxes design is a vision come to life!

PAINTLoose
With school closures and the stay at home order, in-person art classes are out of the question. Keep your kids up to date with their art lessons through virtual classes and their paint materials delivered right to your doorstep.
Meet the small business that combines the best of both!
Founded by Houston artist Amy VanHoy, PAINTLoose was created to combine her passions for painting and teaching. Amy produces DIY painting tutorials that cater primarily to kids, and help viewers source their painting supplies.
In addition to their selection of acrylic paint kits for kids, the “I Love You Fridge Magnets” set (aka the love note that never ends) includes an acrylic frame, a fine tip magnetic dry-erase marker, and an abstract print with 3 color options.
Sly, silly, or sweet, these writable magnets are a great way to spread the love around your home. You can even treat these kits as a tool to teach your kids to write, draw, and most importantly, encourage them to express themselves through words.
With an artist for a founder, it’s no surprise that PAINTLoose wants their custom boxes to be unique and artistic. “We designed the lines to look like brush strokes and tried to play off our tagline by making the lines wrap around the page (a love note that never ends).”
